Chief Executive Officer and President
Brenda Schmidt has overall supervision of all hotel properties and operating personnel for Kelly Inns. She has been in the hospitality industry since 1977 and has been with the company since 1982. Brenda's range of experience involves all aspects of the hotel industry at a variety of management levels along with working with many franchises including Hilton, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Fairfield Inn, Microtel Inn, Quality Inns and Comfort Suites. Along with overseeing more than 525 employees, Brenda is able to draw upon this pool of people when situations arise that need special expertise.
Director of Development
Tom is our Director of Development. With more than 23 years in the hospitality industry, Tom had been instrumental in the acquisition of numerous hotels with The Ramkota Companies, Inc. and the management of their accounting department. Previously he was a Regional Director of Operation with Regency Hotel Management and over saw multiple hotels and resorts.
Tom graduated with a degree in Accounting from Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota.
CHA, Regional Director
Jeff Schoenhard is currently a Regional Director with Kelly Inns, Ltd. His 20 years of service to Kelly Inns has provided him a variety of opportunities to oversee hotel operations, partner with a number of franchises and labor through the construction and opening of several new hotels. Jeff's operational experience includes directing properties serving in the corporate-based and leisure-destination markets. Jeff has experience with franchises including Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Best Western, ClubHouse and a variety of independent brands. Jeff's operational, sales and franchise experience makes him effective in recognizing the profit potential of a property.
Jeff has a bachelor's degree from Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota with an emphasis in Travel & Hospitality. His professional training has included the Fairfield Inn by Marriott General Manager certification course and revenue management certification.
Dawn M. Koble
CHA, Regional Director
Dawn Koble has been with Kelly Inns, Ltd. since 1998, most recently being promoted to a Regional Director position. Prior to this move, Dawn had the opportunity to work at a number of our properties as a General Manager. With over 15 years experience in Operations working with franchises such as Best Western and Choice Hotels, Dawn will use her knowledge and experience to support the General Manager's on a variety of levels. Dawn's prime focus is on Product Improvement Inspections, Financial & Safety Property Audits, departmental procedures, General Manager Orientation Training and Customer Service program.
Dawn studied Marketing and Information Systems at Minot State University. Her industry associations include serving as the Best Western Co-op Chairperson for Nebraska.
Bob comes to us with vast experience in the Hospitality Industry. Bob worked for Tharaldson/TMI Hospitality for 16 years. He was a General Manager and advanced to Area Director overseeing as many as 16 hotels at one time. He then went to work for Northridge Hospitality for the past five years. Northridge grew from one hotel to 13 hotels during Bob’s emply. He assisted in the growth of this company and was involved in new openings with new construction.

My wife (Susan) and I have been married for 36 years. We have three children – Rob and twin daughters, Kaila and Meagan (all three married to incredible spouses). We are blessed with 3 granddaughters – Stella, Lennox and Reagan (all under the age of 2) and our 11 year old step grandson – Chase, and a new arrival expected in May. My personal passion is my family!
Misty Nelson is the Controller of Kelly Inns, Ltd. Misty worked for Regency, our affiliated company for six years. She then went to work at the Washington Pavilion for six years here in Sioux Falls. Misty currently maintains accountability for monthly financial statements, payroll, accounts payable, regulatory returns and all internal controls.
Misty received her bachelor's degree in Accounting from University of Sioux Falls, Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Corporate Operations Manager
Rhonda's hospitality background spans over twenty (20) years. Her many positions in customer service, sales and hotel management have given her a zest for seeking new prospects and providing superior customer service to develop customer loyalty. Rhonda's focus is ensuring brand procedures and programs are being implemented, share best practices with all the properties, support for the General Managers, provide additional customer service training for the front desk staff and product improvement inspections.
Rhonda's development has encompassed an assortment of positions in customer relations, sales. Along with General Manager duties at a variety of hotel franchises such as Radisson Encore Inn, Days Inn and Ramada.
