PRINCIPALS:
Brenda Schmidt, Chief Executive Officer and President of Kelly Inns, Ltd. Brenda Schmidt has overall supervision of all hotel properties and operating personnel for Kelly Inns. She has been in the hospitality industry since 1977 and has been with the company since 1982. Brenda’s range of experience involves all aspects of the hotel industry at a variety of management levels along with working with many franchises including Hilton, Holiday Inn, Best Western, Fairfield Inn, Microtel Inn, Quality Inns and Comfort Suites. Along with overseeing more than 525 employees, Brenda is able to draw upon this pool of people when situations arise that need special expertise.
John Darst, Regional Director John Darst has been with Kelly Inns, Ltd. since 1990; however, he has over 45 years experience in the hotel industry including 30 years of executive positions with a variety of hotel management companies. John’s area of expertise has revolved around the financial aspects of the industry with experiences as a Director of Internal Audit, Controller and VP of Finance. Kelly Inns, Ltd. has benefited from John’s experience with over 15 franchise brands such as Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Best Western, Ramada, Holiday Inn and Radisson.
The industry knowledge that John brings to our management team contains an array of information from daily hotel operations, real estate consulting, feasibility studies to training, hotel financing and construction. John’s strong foundation in budgeting and expense control and analysis are skills that have lead him to writing operations and procedure manuals for many companies as well as involvement in hotel site selection with regard to insurance and risk management. John’s effective communication and negotiation skills have allowed him to succeed in training and building solid teams.
David Wollman, Sr., CHA, Regional Director David Wollman has been with Kelly Inns, Ltd. since 1990. David started with our company as a guest service agent and over his years of service has demonstrated a remarkable ability to lead, direct and promote the company goals to ultimately achieve a position as Regional Director. This ground-up approach has provided David with an extensive background in Hotel Operations ranging from daily activities to opening new properties. As a management company, David supports Kelly Inns, Ltd.’s programs and policies regarding property takeovers, supporting owners in property sales, and working with institutional owners of distressed properties. David has worked with a variety of franchises and has learned the operation structures associated with Best Western, Signature Inns, Ramada Ltd., Days Inn, Comfort Suites (Choice Hotels) and a number of independent hoteliers.
David’s areas of expertise include website development, Internet marketing and corporate purchasing. David’s industry associations include serving as a former Best Western Governor and a former Best Western Co-op Chairperson as well as currently sitting on the Best Western Co-op Board for South Dakota and as a Board member for the South Dakota Innkeepers Association.
Dawn M. Koble, CHA, Corporate Operations Manager
Dawn Koble has been with Kelly Inns, Ltd. since 1998, most recently joining the management team at the corporate office as the new Corporate Operations Manager. Prior to this move, Dawn had the opportunity to work at a number of our properties as a General Manager. With over 15 years experience in Operations working with franchises such as Best Western and Choice Hotels, Dawn will use her knowledge and experience to support the General Manager’s on a variety of levels. Dawn’s prime focus is on Product Improvement Inspections, Financial & Safety Property Audits, departmental procedures, new General Manager Orientation training and Customer Service program.
Dawn studied Marketing and Information Systems at Minot State University. Her industry associations include serving as the Best Western Co-op Chairperson for Nebraska.
Jeff Schoenhard, CHA, District Director Jeff Schoenhard is currently a District Director with Kelly Inns, Ltd. His 16 years of service to Kelly Inns has provided him a variety of opportunities to oversee hotel operations, partner with a number of franchises and labor through the construction and opening of several new hotels. Jeff’s operational experience includes directing properties serving in the corporate-based and leisure-destination markets. Jeff has experience with franchises including Fairfield Inn by Marriott, Best Western, ClubHouse and a variety of independent brands. Jeff’s operational, sales and franchise experience makes him effective in recognizing the profit potential of a property.
Jeff has a bachelor’s degree from Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota with an emphasis in Travel & Hospitality. His professional training has included the Fairfield Inn by Marriott General Manager certification course and revenue management certification.
Kay Fairchild, Human Resources & Benefits Manager With twenty-five years experience in human resources and benefits, Kay Fairchild provides support in human resources, benefits, and risk management to twenty-one properties, which translates to approximately five hundred employees company-wide.
Kay provides general employment support to all levels of management from the President to the General Managers. This diverse area includes the administration and generation of personnel policies and procedures; production of associate manuals with related forms; support and guidance for unemployment hearings and regulatory compliance and immigrant labor programs.
Troy Tecklenburg, Controller Troy Tecklenburg is the Controller of Kelly Inns, Ltd. Troy began his career within the Ramkota Companies’ family of subsidiaries including both Regency Inns Management and Kelly Inns, Ltd. as a corporate accountant. His leadership, attention to detail and training abilities gained him a promotion to Controller to lead a staff of five (5) corporate accountants. In his ten (10) years of experience, Troy has managed the accounting functions for a variety of property types ranging from full to limited service. Troy currently maintains accountability for monthly financial statements, payroll, accounts payable, regulatory returns and all internal controls.
Troy received his bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Black Hills State University, Spearfish, South Dakota.
Sarah Maag, Corporate Sales Representative Sarah Maag is our most recent addition to our management team. Her three years in the Hospitality & Restaurant industry have given her a zest for seeking new prospects and providing superior customer service to develop customer loyalty. Sarah’s focus is selling the Kelly Inns, Ltd. name on a corporate level while familiarizing new prospects with the local hotel’s property features and benefits. Corporate selling coupled with individualized attention to a hotel’s target market help Sarah drive the property’s action plan for increasing revenues.
Sarah’s hospitality background has been in catering and food & beverage sales for Minervas’ Restaurants. She has a bachelor’s degree from South Dakota State University, Brookings, SD with emphasis in the area of Political Science and minors in Animal Science and European Studies.
